“Hiring Practices for Today’s Workplace” is a practical workshop designed to help organizations strengthen every stage of the hiring journey. Participants will explore strategies for attracting strong candidates, improving recruitment methods, and conducting interviews that lead to better hiring decisions. The session also highlights how thoughtful onboarding and clear communication set new employees up for success from day one.

Beyond hiring, the workshop examines how company culture, teamwork, and leadership behaviors influence long-term engagement and retention. Attendees will learn how to create an environment where employees feel supported, motivated, and aligned with organizational goals—boosting performance and reducing turnover. This workshop provides managers, supervisors and HR professionals with tools they can immediately apply to build stronger, more effective teams.

Featured Presenter: Julie McCrea

Julie McCrea is the Adult Learning and Special Projects Lead with the Edmonton Newcomer Centre. For over 20 years, she has been working as an adult education consultant, creating programs and learning materials for organizations using a variety of methods and across a wide range of industries. She has been in her current role for the Edmonton Newcomer Centre for over 9 years, where she has worked to develop and deliver training to improve the lives of both newcomers and born Canadians. Her goal is to provide relevant and immediately applicable takeaways to learners by breaking down concepts to make them user-friendly and easy to understand.  She strives to bring fun and energy into her training so that learners feel engaged and feel like their time is well spent.
