About
Established in 1988, Saamis Immigration Services Association has provided settlement services to newcomers coming to Medicine Hat and area as a result of funding from the Federal and the Alberta Government. It is a non-profit, government-funded, charitable organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and employing sixteen staff. The Association assists new arrivals from around the world with airport reception, settlement and orientation, forms and appointments. English as a Second Language training is also provided as well as supportive counseling and referral, employment services, public awareness and community education. The Community Connections program matches newcomers with Canadian friends to learn about Canadian values and traditions and to practice speaking English. Basic translation and interpretation services in 45 different languages are also available.
