CFIA's Progress Report on Red Tape Reduction
This report came across our inbox in November, and so we reached out to our MP and to the CFIA to find out whether there was any opportunity for feedback and how they are consulting with and getting feedback from industry: https://inspection.canada.ca/en/about-cfia/acts-and-regulations/red-tape-reduction?hsenc=p2ANqtz-_Y…
The CFIA responded with a commitment to continuing to work with stakeholders to identify opportunities to make the regulatory system as efficient as possible, while continuing to uphold Canada’s strong protections and access to international markets. They advised that the CFIA regularly engages stakeholders and considers their feedback as part of its normal business. This is reflected in the CFIA’s Progress Report on Red Tape Reduction as many of the actions in it respond directly to stakeholder issues that have been raised.
We recognize that this Progress Report marks the start of an ongoing effort to reduce red tape, and CFIA will continue to engage stakeholders through various approaches, from targeted stakeholder engagement to public consultations. In addition, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) recently announced the launch of horizontal red tape reviews across federal organizations, which is the next phase in eliminating red tape in federal regulations.
Between December 3, 2025, and February 28, 2026, TBS will be engaging with stakeholders and regulated entities to explore practical ways to reduce red tape in each of the five themes. As your local Chamber, we will continue to keep tabs on communications and engagement opportunities.
