Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Controller, the Accountant plays a key role within the finance team, preparing and analyzing financial information and supporting the continuous improvement of Cancarb’s financial reporting processes. This position supports the development of monthly financial reporting packages, year-end financial statements, audit working papers, forecasts, budgets, and managerial reporting used to support decision-making across the business. The Accountant will help transform financial and operational data into meaningful insights through variance analysis, financial modelling and ad hoc analysis for management.

Qualifications:
Required:
- CPA designation.
- Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in accounting or financial analysis.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills, with ability to investigate issues, identify trends, and develop practical recommendations.
- Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with large data sets.
- Experience working with ERP systems.
- Able to respond quickly within a fast-paced, high-pressure, deadline sensitive environment.
- Accurate and detail-oriented with sound judgment and integrity.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Considered an asset:
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations.
- Experience preparing dashboards, visual reports, or presentations for management.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with tools such as Power BI, Power Query, Power Automate, SharePoint, Microsoft 365 CoPilot or other AI-enabled tools, Microsoft Fabric/OneLake, or other similar platforms
- Additional training or certifications in business intelligence, data analytics, financial modelling, data structuring, or financial systems.
This position requires candidates to:
- Support the preparation of timely and accurate monthly financial statements.
- Support the finance team with recurring accounting activities and other duties as assigned.
- Assist with the preparation of year-end financial statements.
- Support the external audit process by responding to auditor requests, preparing reconciliations, providing analytical support, answering questions, and pulling audit samples as required.
- Assist with the development of forecasts, budgets, financial models, and related management reporting.
- Work with financial and operational data from ERP and reporting systems to identify trends, explain variances, improve reporting accuracy, and support management decision-making.
- Lead and support continuous improvement projects related to financial reporting, data management, automation, reporting tools, AI-enabled processes, and system-based efficiencies.
- Support the maintenance, refresh, development and improvement of Power BI/ Atlas reports, excel models, month-end processes, SharePoint-based reporting tools, and other management reporting resources.
- Prepare parent company reporting and support information requests from Tokai Carbon Co. Ltd., including financial reports, budget and forecast, JSOX, and other information requests.
- Support ISO, internal control, and other compliance-related reporting requirements as required.
- Prepare GST and CRA monthly reporting requirements.
- Develop and maintain dashboards, financial reports, charts, and analytical tools that provide useful insight into business performance.
- Complete other external reporting requirements, including government, provincial, and statistical surveys.
- Prepare, review, and analyze monthly financial statements, variance analysis, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Support accounting team as needed with daily and monthly accounting tasks.
- Other duties as assigned.
