Location: Medicine Hat, Alberta
Hours: Approximately 40–60 hours per week, based on operational needs
Wage: $27.00 - $32.00 per hour (based on experience and skillset)
About Us:
Rivendell Tree Farm is located in a beautiful valley along the South Saskatchewan River near Galt Island. The farm has expanded into a thriving nursery with over 12,000 trees across 85+ species. Today, we take pride in both growing quality trees for their new homes across the region and maintaining those trees as they mature.
About the Role:
As an Arborist with Rivendell Tree Farm, you will play a key role in maintaining the health, safety, and beauty of trees across a variety of settings. This position involves a mix of technical tree care, removals, and client-focused services, requiring both hands-on expertise and thoughtful decision-making. You will contribute to preserving and enhancing landscapes through proper pruning, disease management, and safe tree removal practices. The role also involves collaborating with clients to provide expert advice, planning support, and tailored solutions for their properties. What You Will Do:
- Perform structural and clearance pruning to promote tree health, safety, and proper spacing around buildings, driveways, and walkways.
- Identify and remove diseased, damaged, and dead wood to prevent hazards and support overall tree vitality.
- Carry out safe and efficient tree removals, including technical dismantling where required.
- Operate equipment for stump grinding to restore clean, usable landscape areas.
- Diagnose tree health issues, pests, and diseases, and apply appropriate treatments such as fungicides or pesticides.
- Provide expert advice and consultation to clients on tree health, maintenance, and care.
- Assist with tree planning and yard design, including recommending species, placement, and spacing.
- Support development of landscape plans, including detailed layouts or visual models, where applicable.
- Ensure all work is completed safely, professionally, and in alignment with industry standards.
What We Are Looking For:
Valid ISA Arborist certification (required)
Minimum 2 years of field experience
Experience in pruning, removal, climbing, and rigging
Experience operating aerial lifts and stump grinders
Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean record
Preference will be given to candidates with formal arboriculture education or training from recognized programs (e.g. Olds College Arboriculture Technician Certificate)
Strong communication skills and professional conduct
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
